Cover Design
A good cover should not only be eye-catching, it should also reflect the theme and content of the book in a way that connects with the author’s intended audience. While covers vary in complexity and design elements, all Ilura Design covers follow the same creative process — beginning with clear communication and understanding between author and designer, followed by several design options being presented to the author, and culminating with the creation of the final front, back, and spine cover designs ready for publication.   

Page Layout
Like cover design, the internal pages should also be visually appealing and reflect the theme of the book. Placement of design elements, margins, and columns, as well as the inclusion of images if required, all help to reflect the theme and to guide the reader from one page to the next. We will ensure a publication achieves maximum readability and accessibility, whether working with text only, a combination of text and images, or a predominantly visual art or photographic work.

Typesetting
There are endless possibilities and combinations when it comes to fonts and how the text, headings, and titles appear on the page. Fonts are chosen to complement the text and ideas for an effective and appealing design. Fonts and the way they are presented on the page are integral to page layout in creating ease of reading, imparting information, and being visually appealing or creating startling promotional effects and impact.

Image Retouching and Enhancing
Professional image enhancing and correction ensures polished and refined image quality. We will adjust images to suit individual publishing requirements, whether print-on-demand, offset, or digital. ​

Copy-editing
We provide professional copy-editing services for all genres of fiction and non-fiction — whether literary, academic, business, or commercial. ​Once a manuscript has reached its final draft, a copy-editor will focus on clarity of expression, sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Copy-editing is a meticulous process that can dramatically improve overall comprehension and readability.

Proofreading
​​After copy-editing, two proofreading stages are recommended.
​The first stage involves a thorough, line-by-line check of the text, focusing on spelling and punctuation. The first stage is completed before typesetting. ​The second stage, after typesetting, involves double-checking the text while also looking for any errors that may have been introduced during typesetting.

​A proofreader ensures all text is polished and set to a high standard prior to publication. ​

Printing
We work with leading print-on-demand and small print-run companies while also maintaining our relationships with traditional offset printers specialising in larger print runs. We prepare all print-ready files according to the requirements of the individual printers.

Whether a paperback novel or a hardcover coffee-table book full of stunning photography and illustrations, we source the most suitable printing options with the best choice of paper and cover stock available.

Binding
We can advise on all binding options for print-on-demand and offset, from perfect bound and burst bound to section sewn and beautifully crafted hardcover productions designed to last. And if wire or plastic spiral binding is required for general purpose presentations, we are happy to assist with that as well. ​

Digital File Creation
We create digital files for e-book readers such as Kindle, Kobo, and Sony, and for Android and Apple apps used on devices such as tablets, smartphones, and computers. 

Once files are correctly formatted, we can upload them to Ingram Spark and Amazon KDP for distribution and sales through major online retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Booktopia, and Apple Books.

Distribution
Working with Ingram Spark and Amazon KDP, we can arrange worldwide distribution for print-on-demand and digital titles through all major outlets including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple Books.

All major file formats are supported for e-reader devices such as Kindle, Kobo, and Sony, and for Android and Apple apps and devices.  

We also offer assistance with ISBN and Library depository copies. Authors and organisations retain all copyrights.

Digital and print-on-demand distribution makes it possible for authors to keep their titles permanently available in print and digital formats, and available globally.      ​
